Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity, & Accessibility (EDIA) Cross-Theme Supports for Team Primary Care
About the EDIA Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Stream
The EDIA PGME stream aims to support learners and postgraduate programs enhance their equity-based education by providing a curated process and platform adapted to their needs. With the support of the Team Primary Care grant, we have partnered with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) to develop a curriculum renewal guide on health equity and anti-racism.
The guide is designed to support family medicine departments across the Canada achieve their health equity educational objectives in alignment with CFPC core professional activities. To complement their existing curriculum renewal process, we are surveying and interviewing family medicine program leadership to scope their existing health equity and antiracism curricula. We are identifying strengths and potential areas of growth while providing strategies and solutions for specific challenges.
The EDIA PGME framework focuses on:
-
Adopting continuous quality improvement principles along the journey for equitable education, care and systems
-
Promoting a co-learning approach involving both preceptors and learners
-
Providing processes that can be adapted dependent on program size, distributed sites and resources
-
Offering an accessible virtual platform for educational content and evidence-based strategies
We are currently adapting the EDIA Readiness Assessment Tool, Digital Learning platform and Adaptive Mentorship program for postgraduate programs and learners use.
